MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Memphis Safe Task Force has made 1,603 arrests since beginning operations Oct. 1, with 239 of those arrests involving individuals with outstanding warrants for violent crimes, according to crime data provided by the city of Memphis.
State Senator Brent Taylor says the law enforcement surge has been the difference maker the city needed to bring crime down to manageable levels.
“It’s the results that I’ve been looking for since I was elected to office three years ago. I knew this was possible,” said Taylor, who represents District 31 in Shelby County.
The crime data shows a 47% drop in serious crimes and an 18% drop in calls for services compared to the same time last year since the task force began operations. The number of offenses has steadily declined compa
