KINGSTON, N.Y. — Opening statements could start as early as Tuesday afternoon in the trial of a former state trooper accused of murder in the 2020 death of an 11-year-old Brooklyn girl on the state Thruway in Ulster County.

Nine men and three women were chosen Monday in Ulster County Court to sit in judgment of Christopher Baldner, who prosecutors say acted with “depraved indifference to human life” on Dec. 20, 2020, when, as a 19-year veteran of the state police, he rammed a vehicle driven by Tristin Goods during a high-speed chase on the Thruway near mile marker 92, just past the Kingston exit.

Ulster County Judge Bryan Rounds, who is presiding over the trial, said he expects attorneys to pick four alternate jurors Tuesday morning.
