WHITEFISH POINT — The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum is closing out what appears to be a record-breaking season.
The museum, located in northwest Chippewa County, opened for the season May 1 and will close on Friday.
Executive Director Bruce Lynn said the museum typically draws around 75,000 paid visitors each year, but ticket sales could surpass 80,000 before the season ends.
“That is only part of the story, too, because some have already been through the museum a few times before, so they come up and spend time on the beach or walk the trails or visit Seney National Wildlife Refuge — they have a unit here as well,” Lynn said.
Lynn added that an outdoor memorial service marking the 50th anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald sinking will take place Monday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. The event is
