Kroger is asking customers to use exact change for cash purchases as the grocery chain deals with a national coin shortage following the halt of penny production, Cincinnati.com reports.
The Cincinnati-based supermarket giant has posted signs in its stores, including 103 locations across the Cincinnati/Dayton Division, requesting shoppers paying with cash to provide exact change, the outlet noted. The shortage stems from President Trump’s February order directing the U.S. Mint to stop producing pennies .
Despite the request, Kroger is not turning away any form of payment, Cincinnati.com added.
“Kroger will continue to accept pennies for payment,” the retailer said in a statement. “We continue to assess the impact of the U.S. Treasury’s decision to end penny production. If using cash
