BLUFFTON, S.C. (WSAV) — Sounds of fun ringing out as kids play in the neighborhood streets is something many residents in the Lakes at New Riverside neighborhood in Bluffton said they cherish to still hear.

Lately that sound has been interrupted with something far more dangerous, replacing quiet suburbia with fear. For over a year, residents in the Lakes at New Riverside subdivision, tucked in the Palmetto Bluff area, have heard gunshots at random hours.

Neighbors said many times; the shots are rapid and can last for around 30 minutes to several hours at a time.

Out of safety and privacy concerns, all neighbors that spoke to WSAV have wished to remain anonymous.

“I don't even want to come outside,” said one neighbor.

Another said, “I feel terrified."
