Lompoc Unified School District fell short of state academic benchmarks during the 2024-25 year, with new state test results showing students lagging behind California peers in both English language arts and mathematics, and showing little year-over-year improvement.

Results from the 2024–25 Smarter Balanced Assessments in English language arts and mathematics, released this month by the California Department of Education, show that just 32% of students in grades K-8 and 11th met or exceeded state standards in English Language Arts (ELA), compared to 49% statewide.

In math, 21% of Lompoc students met or exceeded standards, versus 37% across California.

The numbers reflect a consistent achievement gap for the district’s roughly 9,000 students and echo patterns seen in past years.
