PORTSMOUTH, N.H. —

Leaders in Portsmouth and Newington are moving their Halloween celebrations up a day due to rain expected later this week.

Trick-or-treating will now take place Wednesday instead of Thursday.

City officials admitted the change may not please everyone but said it was necessary given the weather risk.

"Little kids aren't going to be out in the in the wet, in the gross, on Thursday," said Monte Bohanan, Portsmouth's director of communications and community engagement. "By all reports, it looks like it is going to be absolutely miserable on Thursday, torrential rain, and high winds on on Saturday as well. So, it's unfortunate and I don't think everybody's going to be happy with the change."
