SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The City of Sioux City has partnered with a local school district to help satisfy a need for new housing. The city council cemented a planned partnership with the Sioux City Community School District to bring more housing in that’s built by students.

The city and school district signed a Memorandum of Understanding that allows the city to buy eight homes built in the Sioux City Community School District’s Trades Pathway Program.

The homes will be sold to individuals, or families, that are at 80% of the area median income, or lower.

Jill Wanderscheid, with Sioux City Neighborhood Services, says the city is able to provide help with the down payment and closing costs to these homeowners.

“We will be purchasing these homes for the cost of materials,” said Wanderscheid.
