Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a Newark man early Friday morning.
According to a statement released by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Newark police responded just after midnight on October 24 to ShotSpotter alerts of gunfire near 730 South 16th Street.
Officers arriving on the scene discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim, identified as 35-year-old Jarad Winston of Newark, was rushed to University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators said the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
No arrests have been reported, and a motive for the shooting has not yet been determined.
