MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) -- A major construction project starts in the heart of downtown Mobile this morning. The roof is being replaced on the Saenger Theatre. One block of one street may not seem like a lot, but this is also happening in the densest part of the city.
Starting this morning and running for about the next two months, the city of Mobile is closing one block of Conti Street from Jackson to Joachim Streets. That’s on the south side of the Saenger building. That will be space to accommodate the material, machines and manpower needed to replace the theatre’s roof.
They’re closing the street and also the sidewalks to keep people out of a potentially dangerous construction zone. Drivers and walkers need to avoid this area as construction is expected to start at about six this morning
