Quarterback Brock Purdy’s status remains up in the air for the 49ers' Week 9 game against the New York Giants, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said on Monday.

“I think it's too early to say. I don't think it's a long shot, but I know he is doing better," Shanahan said of Purdy. "We'll see how he's doing Wednesday. Hopefully, if he's doing good, he'll get in some reps.”

The 49ers return to action on Sunday against the Giants, who are 2-6 on the season after their 38-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The artificial playing surface at the Giants' home stadium, MetLife Stadium, will have no impact on the decision, Shanahan said.
