Extremists who are stripped of their British citizenship will face increased hurdles to regaining their status on appeal as a new law comes into force.

Until now, an individual who the UK government deemed to be a threat to national security could be released from immigration detention, or returned to Britain, despite ongoing appeals by the state to stop them.

However, the new legislation closes a "legal loophole", so that citizenship cannot be regranted even in the case of a successful first appeal. Instead all appeals will now have to be exhausted before a final decision on citizenship can be decided.
