MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) -- The Myrtle Beach City Council on Tuesday approved a final reading of an ordinance bringing back free offseason parking downtown.
In 2023, the city voted to implement year-round paid parking in its metered spots.
But earlier this month, the city gave initial approval to the ordinance that would allow for free parking in city-metered spots from Oct. 1 through the end of February. This would apply to spots located from 6th Avenue South to 21st Avenue North, and west to Kings Highway.
"Downtown businesses have expressed that temporary suspension of paid and/or metered parking may boost business. The manager proposes to offer parking decals to full-time city employees as an employee benefit," the ordinance reads.
The ordinance becomes effective on Saturday, Nov.
