Oliver Paipoonge is continuing to try and get the bugs out of a new chlorinated filtration system designed to remove arsenic from Rosslyn’s communal well.
Oliver Paipoonge Mayor Lucy Kloosterhuis said this week that while the $374,000 filtration system worked well during the testing phase, it has yet to meet provincial requirements.
Until it passes an inspection by the Ministry of Environment, about 30 Rosslyn village households are advised not to drink the water from household taps.
In March of 2023, Thunder Bay District Health Unit issued a drinking-water advisory for the village after high levels of arsenic levels were detected. It’s not unusual for elevated arsenic levels to appear in wells.
