BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - With Halloween falling on a Friday this year, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is urging increased caution on roadways and in neighborhoods. Sgt. Justin Ruiz with DPS shared several safety tips for trick-or-treaters and drivers alike.

One crucial piece of advice for parents is to ensure children know a designated meeting spot in case they get separated.

“Whether it be back at your car, at your house, if you’re still in the neighborhood, or some type of memorable landmark that your child would remember,” Sgt. Ruiz said.

He noted that costumes can make it harder to find lost children. Sgt. Ruiz suggests incorporating bright colors or lights into costumes or having children carry flashlights to make them more visible. The Texas Department of Public Safety
