House Speaker Mike Johnson dismissed Donald Trump’s repeated talk of possibly running for another presidential term, saying the U.S. Constitution’s two-term limit would block him from such a bid.
“I don’t see the path for that,” said Johnson, the top-ranking Republican in the U.S. House. “I think the president knows, and he and I have talked about the restrictions in the Constitution.”
Trump has frequently teased the prospect of running for a third term as president despite the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution prohibiting any commander-in-chief from being elected to more than two terms.
Johnson, of Louisiana, said he doesn’t “see a way” to pass a new amendment to overturn that restriction, suggesting it would likely take “10 years” to muster the needed two-thirds majority in both
