More than 10,000 objections have been lodged against a 70-mile pylon scheme in the north-east , marking one of the "largest responses of public outcry ever seen" on an energy project.

The "enormous" number of objections follows the closure of the public consultation into plans to install two substations and a chain of 350 pylons measuring 190ft from Kintore in Aberdeenshire to Tealing in Angus.

In the last week alone, the number of responses sent to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit have more than doubled, from 4,500, to around 10,300 as of Monday night (October 28).
