BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Dakota Resource Council (DRC) has sued the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality over the permitting of a planned 25,000-cow mega-dairy.
The proposed Riverview Herberg Dairy was issued permits in September of 2025 and would be located just a mile and a half from the Red River in Traill County. The project has drawn sharp public criticism from locals, environmental groups, and the Canadian government, which recently called for an international review due to the possible effects on Lake Winnipeg.
The project would be the largest dairy farm in North Dakota's history. DRC is suing on the grounds that NDDEQ failed to "alleviate the likelihood of pollution and degraded water quality," when permitting the project.
