BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) - The City of Bismarck is expected to vote Tuesday night on whether to buy land for a new police headquarters, a move that’s been nearly a decade in the making.

City leaders are considering the purchase of a 9.8-acre undeveloped property at 2705 Valley Forge Street, near the intersection of East Century Avenue and Centennial Road.

If approved, the new building would replace the police department’s longtime home at 700 South 9th Street, where officers have worked since the 1970s.

Bismarck Police Chief Jason Stugelmeyer said the current building sits on just 2.5 acres, and even with leased parking, space is limited.
