NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez is one of 23 attorneys general, alongside three state governors, who are suing the Trump Administration over the suspension of the SNAP program. Nearly half a million New Mexicans rely on SNAP benefits, and now they won't be getting them due to the ongoing shutdown.

In part, the lawsuit claims that the United States Department of Agriculture has funding given by Congress that could fund the program, but the USDA is intentionally refusing to use that funding. The lawsuit also says that the USDA has funded other programs with emergency funding, but not SNAP. The lawsuit asks for the program to be restored.
