JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) - Second Harvest Food Bank said it is preparing for an influx of food security needs ahead of a SNAP benefit halt prompted by the extended government shutdown.

News Channel 11 talked with Karen Todd, Second Harvest Community Relations Coordinator, to discuss the effects that a November without SNAP benefits would have on the region.

One thing Todd stressed was that for every one meal Second Harvest provides, SNAP can provide ten meals. She added that the food bank is urging all who can to volunteer, donate food items and contact their elected representatives--something Todd said she herself is doing regularly.
