The Kauai Police Department is seeking the public’s help identifying human remains discovered along Aliomanu Beach in April.
Police said a DNA profile is now available to compare with missing persons reports or family reference samples.
The DNA analysis and forensic laboratory testing took longer than usual to complete due to the advanced state of decomposition of the partial remains, along with prolonged exposure to the ocean environment.
So far, police said these analyses confirmed the remains are of a man, who possible had a hernia operation as a surgical mesh “consistent with previous hernia repair” was found with them.
