Reading Day, also known as "Stop Day" by University of Missouri students, may not happen in the fall 2026 semester.

Veteran's Day in November 2026 falls on a Wednesday, which cuts into the required amount of time that classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday can meet.

The Missouri General Assembly passed a law in the spring that made Veteran's Day an official holiday for the UM System. Gov. Mike Kehoe signed the bill into law in July.

"If we have certain, kind of, metrics we need to meet in order to have a successful semester with our course meetings, we want to make sure that we as faculty are achieving those," said Carolyn Orbann, head of the MU Faculty Council on University Policy.
