PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WWBT) - The Prince George County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday night to finalize a youth sports uniform policy that sparked major controversy after a soccer team was initially told they could not play in jerseys with Bible verses.
The unanimous vote prohibits alterations to sports uniforms given by Parks and Recreation.
The move comes after Coach Andrew Collins said the county told his soccer team they could not play in their jerseys with a Bible verse on the back.
“They all just voted unanimously with us, and we are ready to go play soccer again,” Collins said.
Collins and parents on the team pushed back against the initial restriction, citing the First Amendment.
A week later, the county let the kids play while drafting a new policy.
