VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach Public Schools administration on Tuesday presented a recommendation to consider chopping the division's middle school dual language immersion program, or DLI, completely.
Even though the DLI middle school program has prior approval to be expanded to two more middle schools, and grant funding support, by the end of the decade, the division's administration told the board, they would like them to consider two alternative cheaper options.
Those options would be to cut the program to just one school, or to do away with the program completely.
The first option would consolidate the program into Virginia Beach Middle School, which would transfer roughly 125 students, from each grade level, across the division, costing about $65,000 less than expansion.
