The bandh that started at 6 AM today saw streets of Mizoram deserted, educational institutes and business establishments were shut.

The opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) today called off its Mizoram bandh at around 1:00 PM, three hours ahead of schedule, claiming that the bandh was “highly successful and was a peaceful demonstration of public unity” against the Forest Conservation (Amendment) Act, 2023 (FCAA).

The bandh was to end at 4:00 PM today and was called to protest the Mizoram government’s decision to accept the amended Forest Conservation Act, 2023 that, according to the MNF, undermines Article 371 (G) of the Indian Constitution that protects Mizoram’s customary laws, land ownership, and natural resources.
