The Inspector General of Nebraska Child Welfare has launched an investigation into recent allegations of sexual abuse at the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center (YRTC) in Kearney.

Earlier this month, one youth — whose case has been previously covered — had a hearing that revealed chilling details about what is happening at YRTC-Kearney.

Douglas County Juvenile Court expressed concern not only about the abuse but also about what it called the “systematic minimization, concealment and disregard by those in charge of his care.”

Nebraska Child Welfare’s Inspector General, Jennifer Carter, confirmed her office is investigating several allegations from YRTC-Kearney.

“We can just choose to open an investigation if we're seeing a systemic problem,” Carter said.
