One teenage boy is dead and another is in custody after a shooting at a birthday party in a Minneapolis home late Sunday.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara says officers were called to a report of a shooting at a home on the 2900 block of Russell Avenue North around 10:50 p.m. and arrived to find a boy with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
O'Hara says the initial 911 caller had claimed that the boy had shot himself, but a short time later officers received information suggesting that the shooter had been another teenage boy. Police took a boy into custody, and he is currently considered a "person of interest."
Both victim and possible shooter were part of a group that had gathered in the basement of home to celebrate a birthday.
