The family of a railman who was left fighting for life after tackling a knifeman during the Huntingdon train bloodbath today said: "To us he's always been a hero."
Samir Zitouni, 48, remains in critical condition after Saturday's attack on the 6.25pm Doncaster to London King's Cross. His actions are said to have "undoubtedly saved many lives" during a frenzied eight-minute stabbing spree just after 7.30pm .
Customer Experience Host Samir, who is known to many as Sam and has worked for LNER for more than 20 years, was described as "nothing short of heroic" by the British Transport Police after the train was diverted to Huntingdon after an emergency call.
