McDonald's is dealing with a penny shortage, according to a report by CNN.

Some of its fast food restaurants are now rounding cash purchases, either up or down, to the nearest five cents for customers who do not have exact change.

McDonald's is just the latest business that is trying to cope with the reality that fewer pennies are circulating.

The U.S. mint stopped making pennies about two months ago.

The change in McDonald's policy of rounding totals up or down only affects people who are paying with cash.

Most people in the united states use credit cards or other cashless payments to buy their food and drinks.
