Cigarette smokers are fewer, at least in the U.S., but vaping and e-cigarette use is going up — especially among kids and young adults.

KOAT health expert Abinash Achrekar, best known as Dr. Ash, says a recent World Health Organization report shows that there are more than 100 million people using e-cigarettes. It also reports that 15 million of them are aged 13-15, and that children are nine times more likely to vape than adults.

So what's the appeal?

"Vaping companies have done a good job of marketing to teens," Dr. Ash said. "Many products come in candy, fruit or dessert flavors — things that clearly appeal to kids. Here in the U.S., the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 90% of kids who vape use flavored e-cigarettes."
