The Santa Fe City Council will see two fresh faces in the new year, both of whom jumped ahead early and maintained their leads as the initial round of votes were tallied Tuesday night: Pat Feghali in District 1 and Elizabeth Barrett in District 1.

"I am cautiously optimistic," Feghali said Tuesday night when she had 40% of the votes and still faced another round of tallying in the three-way, ranked choice race. She was trailed by Katherine Rivera and David Montoya, who each had 30% in the first round.

"I like to think that I ran a really broad campaign," Feghali said. "I got endorsements from a lot of different kinds of groups; I reached a lot of different groups of voters. I think, hopefully, that's going to pay off."
