SANTA FE, N.M. —

A new mayor will soon be sworn into office in Santa Fe.

Santa Fe City Councilor Michael Garcia won the mayoral race in a ranked-choice election, defeating seven contenders.

Supporters celebrated late Tuesday night as the county clerk confirmed his victory after multiple rounds of vote tallying.

Garcia, a lifelong Santa Fe resident and two-term councilor, says he plans to tackle affordable housing, homelessness and public safety once in office.

Garcia will replace two-term Mayor Alan Webber and become the city’s 44th mayor, marking a new chapter for the capital.
