Winnipeg’s public works department is seeking approval to exceed its 2025 operating budget by just over $7 million to ensure the city can keep up with snow-clearing and maintenance bills if severe winter weather hits in the final months of the year.
A report going before city council’s finance and economic development committee on Nov. 10 recommends authorizing up to $7,064,510 in additional spending authority. Most of that amount — about $9.3 million — would be directed to snow and ice control in the final quarter of 2025, partly offset by lower-than-expected costs earlier in the year.
