BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont voters approved an infrastructure bond proposition Tuesday but rejected four other propositions in the city's first bond election in over 40 years, sparking criticism from three City Council members.

Voters passed Proposition A, which covers infrastructure improvements including sidewalk, sewer line and road replacements. They rejected Proposition B for public safety facilities, Proposition C for parks and recreation, Proposition D to expand Riverfront Park and Proposition E for road extensions.

At-Large Council Member Mike Williams and Ward 1 and Ward 2 Council Members Cory Crenshaw and Joey Hilliard issued a joint statement Wednesday saying the election results demonstrate that a majority of the council "failed to grasp the true pulse of our community."
