ANDERSON, Ind. — An Anderson funeral director is facing accusations that she allegedly overcharged families and embezzled over $47,000.
On Nov. 3, the Madison County Prosecutor charged 33-year-old Adrianne McCoy of Anderson with seven felonies, including corrupt business influence and multiple counts of forgery, fraud and theft.
According to recently released court documents, around 11:03 a.m. on Aug. 14, Anderson police officers were called to the Legacy Funeral Home located at 504 W. 9th St. on a report of a possible theft.
When officers arrived, they met with an employee who told them she noticed approximately $47,000 missing from the funeral home's budget and that she had evidence that a former employee, identified as McCoy, was the one who stole the money.
