HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KWCH) - The City of Hutchinson announced on Tuesday a measure to provide relief for some residents during the federal government shutdown. The city specifically announced that it won’t turn off water services during the shutdown.
“The decision to suspend the utility billing shutoffs is really the city’s effort to look after the community in a manner in which we can,” said Hutchinson City Manager Enrico Villegas.
Hutchinson’s announcement followed similar action in Emporia, suspending utility shutoffs while SNAP benefits go unfunded.
The City of Hutchinson said anyone running into financial problems should reach out to the utility billing office to discuss payment arrangements and any assistance options.
