A council's predicted budget overspend for the current financial year has risen by nearly £1 million. Peterborough City Council's budget control report for the second quarter of 2025/26 revealed a forecast £6.1 million overspend on the £233 million net revenue budget by the end of the year.
After the first quarter, the overspend was a predicted £5.2 million. It comes just one month after the council's cabinet member for finance Cllr Mohammed Jamil said he was "confident" a balanced budget could be achieved by February next year.
The report, which will go before a scrutiny committee on November 13, noted that the increased forecast overspend reflected the "continued challenging financial position" of the council.
