DETROIT - A towering tree just made a 200-mile trek from northern Michigan to a public square in downtown Detroit where it will be the centerpiece of Christmas festivities for the holiday season.

The 62-foot Norway spruce, which was privately grown in Manton in Wexford County just north of Cadillac, has been put into place at Campus Martius Park.

It is one of the tallest Christmas trees in the nation, standing just four feet shorter than the one on display last year in downtown Detroit.

To put into contrast, the Michigan Capitol tree is 68-feet tall from the U.P . New York’s Rockefeller Center tree is 75-feet tall, and Chicago’s Millennium Park tree stands 67-feet.
