It’s time to dust off your heels, grab a boutonniere and practice your electric slide because this weekend the Fairbanks Academy of Community Theater (FACT) is putting on “The Prom.”

Running Friday through Sunday at the DeWild Theater inside West Valley High School, the show is for audiences aged 16 and older and is bound to make viewers laugh and maybe shed a few tears.

A modern musical, the show follows high school student Emma who invites her girlfriend to the prom with plans to wear a tuxedo but the homophobic PTA gets upset and cancels the event altogether. Instead they decide to host two proms, moving the original prom’s venue so Emma and her date show up to an empty school gym.
