LEROY, Ill. (WCIA) -- When it comes to emergency response, every second counts. And one Central Illinois school district is taking that to heart.

LeRoy schools now have maps to help first responders get to emergencies faster. They were created using some advanced technology, and they are different from a standard building layout. These maps offer rich data, in real time.

When a 911 call is made, first responders know exactly where inside the building the call came from.

"We talk a lot about our most important thing in schools is to educate kids, but their safety has to be number one," said Jeff Baughman, Superintendent of LeRoy school district.
