COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A Richland County woman recently found guilty of animal torture has now filed to appeal her conviction.
Caroline Dawn Pennington was convicted of 30 counts of ill treatment of animals on Oct. 30, according to the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Those charges stemmed from her 2022 arrest, in which authorities found a total of 30 deceased dogs and cats at her home. Prosecutors said all but four of the animals were locked in pet carriers or wire kennels that were “filled with waste.”
The other four animals are inside Pennington’s home.
At the time of her arrest, Pennington was the director of the animal rescue nonprofit Global Rescue Welfare League - also known as GROWL.
After being found guilty, Pennington was sentenced to nine years in prison. A judge also rule
