Mishell Whitacre, a registered nurse, and licensed midwife from Atascadero, presented a program to the Rotary Club of Porterville on Tuesday at Thai Kitchen about her program that trains midwives in the rural areas in the Lake Atitlan region of Guatemala The Rotary Club of Porterville is supporting the project whose goal is to reduce infant and maternal mortality in rural Guatemala. Porterville Rotarians will supply basic equipment kits containing pressure cuff/stethoscope, fetoscope, watch, and measuring tapes to Guatemalan women completing the training.
