MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis City Council approved a resolution Tuesday night designed to provide relief to people amid the government shutdown.
The Memphis Emergency Meal Provision and Housing Interim Services Loan Fund (MEMPHIS Fund) allocates $2.5 million from the City of Memphis' unassigned fund balance to create a zero-interest emergency loan fund administered by the City of Memphis Division of Finance.
The Community Foundation of Greater Memphis will distribute those funds to the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA), The Hospitality Hub, the Mid-South Food Bank, and Feed the Needy.
Those organizations will then use the money to provide emergency food and housing assistance to Memphis residents affected by the loss of federal income and benefits.
