MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A jury convicted a Memphis man of murder nearly four years after he killed his landlord.
The Shelby County District Attorney's Office said the jury returned the guilty verdicts for Robert Collins after a weeklong trial in which Collins represented himself.

The deadly shooting happened in November 2021 on East Shelby Drive. Collins owed his landlord, Ernest Hatton, several months' worth of rent and failed to maintain his property as agreed, according to the district attorney's office.
Hatton arrived at the location only to be met by gunfire. Prosecutors said that Collins fired multiple shots at his landlord and hit Hatton more than 12 times.
