SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The City of Springfield announced Thursday afternoon that the St. James Avenue bridge over the abandoned rail line near Albany Street has been closed for emergency repairs.

According to city officials, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) notified the city that the bridge needs to be completely closed in order for crews to perform necessary repair work.

Detour routes will be posted, and the closure is expected to last several days while the work is completed. According to the Springfield Department of Public Works (DPW), the bridge is owned and maintained by MassDOT, which will oversee the repairs.
