AUSTIN, Texas — A Bowie High School student was hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle on Thursday afternoon, school officials said.

Around 8:55 a.m. crews responded to an incident near the school's parking garage involving a student struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle, according to a letter sent to families from Bowie High School Principal Mark Robinson.

Emergency crews provided care to the student and they were later released by EMS to their family.

School officials said classes continued as normal during the response.

Officials also said counselors are available for students and staff if they need support following the incident.

It is unclear if the vehicle involved remained on the scene at this time.
