CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - “We know that we have a lot of people in our community who really need food right now.” Heather Wagner, executive director of the Eastern Iowa Arts Academy, said.

The nonprofit’s food pantry has a lot more donations than it did months ago, with even more stored away.

That’s because Wagner said the community has stepped up to help feed those in need as SNAP funding remains in jeopardy during the government shutdown.

“We call it our carry out corner and it’s really primarily for our families and our students that go here,” Wagner said. “But recently we have opened it up more to the public because we’ve seen a huge influx of need obviously from the community. They really need to come here and check out what we have.”

She said people can come in every other week
