BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - To be inducted into a hall of fame, you have to be really great at something. It could be sports, music or even aviation.

This story is about two hall of famers— one in the North Dakota Aviation Hall of Fame, the other in the North Dakota Music Hall of Fame.

And while their lives and passions took them different directions, the connection they formed so many years ago is as strong as ever.

Richard Torrance might be best known for his song, “Rio de Janeiro Blue.” He wrote it in 1977. More than 30 other musicians have recorded the song since.

Growing up in Bismarck in the 1960s, Torrance always knew he wanted to be a rock and roll star. For a brief time, he thought about being a pilot too.
