MAXTON — A railroad crossing between Maxton and Pembroke, near Purnell Swett High School, will close next week for an emergency repair.

The railroad crossing on Deep Branch Road, just south of where the road intersects West Robeson Road and also near its intersection with Preston Road, will close at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. It is scheduled to reopen by 7 a.m. on Wednesday once repairs are complete.

CSX is performing the emergency track repair after a crack in the rail was identified at the crossing.

This is a total closure and no traffic will be allowed to cross the track until the project is completed. This will also require traffic to be rerouted, and signage will be in place to denote detour routes. Motorists should anticipate delays, and are encouraged to avoid the area if possible.
